Not bad, James, not bad...I directed several plays in high-school and college, and acted in many more. Self- control and dignity are called forth often enough in characters, but they are hard to play because they do not have "pizzazz". Someone like Neeson dominates the screen with his dignity and thoughtfulness, and that is acting. Similarly, Portman demonstrates a great deal of power "held in reserve". The kids in The Blair Witch Project have few demands placed on them, and nevertheless barely register as individuals on the screen...Yeah, I guess that that moment of turning the camera on her was creepy, but I was too busy yawning for it to have a full impact...Sure, they get "weirded out" about the creepy items, but there is little impact to the scenes of finding the creepy items because there is little dialogue, and the camera just keeps showing rock piles or stick men, which look kind of silly, frankly...I can see that you found the supposed "realism" impressive, and there is little I can say to that, except that neither I, nor my wife, nor my fifteen year old son, were drawn in. Maybe it is just that we are not campers<g>..... |
