I think that hits the nail right on the thumb.
1) SI did a poll, didn't like the numbers, quietly suppressed it.
2) Had SI done a poll and gotten "massive support" the poll would have been published. There is no finer way these days to gain the moral high ground than have a supportive poll.
3) SI didn't do a poll - no point; the decision was in place.
4) I am a long-time user and I was never polled by SI admin.

No matter how you slice it, it comes up "conflict between the user community's and the mgmt's goals". Jmo
