MGI software has announced that its SoftDVD MAX decoder (recently acquired from Zoran) is now compatible with Panasonic's LFD101 DVD-RAM drive. With SoftDVD MAX and the drive, PCs can be used as DVD players. SoftDVD MAX supports all the components of the DVD standard in software, including navigation, user interface, MPEG-2, and Dolby Digital (AC-3) decoding, video/audio synchronization, and decryption. In addition to audio and video playback, SoftDVD MAX offers a choice of languages on the sound track, the ability to playback favorite sections instantly, special effects playback, and a choice of locks on objectionable scenes.
