Colin, Netcom and PSI should have merged (misery loves company) --
but now that PSI has closed down Pipeline, it ain't gonna happen.

Netcom seems to have a loyal following (don't ask me why), but PSI has always been one of the most charred ISPs on the Net (from the continuous flame throwers).

I think the most likely scenario I can see is for PacBell to buy Netcom. PacBell Internet needs solid credibility to please their SBC masters, and one way to do that is to buy Netcom, the largest ISP.

There are few buyers left in this market. BBN has bought out all the regionals (not CERFnet...yet), so they have a good presence. Don't be surprised if one of the publicly traded ISPs goes bust. I would hate to see it because it would send shockwaves across the entire Internet investment community, but it could happen.
