tonto,
The Novartis rep didn't discuss numbers with me but he said they spend millions on throw away junk that has no use. The ALRT beeper is new and innovative from what I can see. The rep had never heard of any competing products. I told him about the pill bottle cap that somehow helps with drug compliance, I don't know how it works. and the programmable watch. I understand the watch is hard to program and is expensive. A public health nurse told me they looked at it but its too expensive and hard to use. The ALRT beeper is inexpensive in volume and can be printed with the company name or the drug name. Its reusable and reprogramable. The drug reps are begging for a give away that has a use and will help them sell more product.
Some items that the pharma's give away:
1. Blood pressure cuffs are a giveaway and they are printed with the drug name, not an inexpensive item or a throw away.
2. Pens and pencils and note pads.
3. Prescription pads.
4. Magnets
5. file holders
6. Golf green fees
6 a. Golf balls
6 b. Golf tees
7. Football tickets
7 a. Stadium hot seats.
8. bottle openers
8 a. Bottles
9. Highlighters
10. Letter openers
11. Basketball tickets
12. Dinner coupons
13. Briefcases
14. Coffee mugs
15. You name it, they give it.
This is just the stuff my wife gets at her office and not one item is of any use to bring about drug compliance. All the give away items are to get the prescription written. The ALR Beeper is to help the patient, the first giveaway for the customer. Most prescriptions for 30 days are refilled every 45 days. If the beeper reminds people to take the meds look at the increase in sales that will bring to the pharmas. Think about this, you have a patient that forgets to take his blood pressure med and you can write a script for a med that comes with the ALR Reminder?
