Kenneth, the Chinese government did not burn down the USA embassy. A mob biffed rocks and stuff and did damage, while the Chinese police stood by and took no action other than to stop people entering the premises. As I'm sure you know, an angry mob is not that easy to control, especially if you don't care very much and don't try much at all to control them. The important point to understand is that it isn't just the Chinese Communist Party bosses you are dealing with here, it's the population of China too. Not all of them of course and a good number would think "Good job that the USA bopped Jiang Zemin's outfit on the nose. Let's hope they do it again and make Zemin and Rongji realize they better not goof around too much with Taiwan". Mqurice
