To the Thread, pls. give your thoughts

The August issue of Smart Money has an article entitled "The Next Big Thing." I highly reccomend buying the magazine for this article (p. 108). Below is a chart that I have "paraphrased" where SM reccomends some tech stocks involved in "on the edge" technological developments. I am going to try to do some DD on some of these stocks (not my strong suit, anybody want to help?). There is one of those odd coincidences that make you sit up and take notice--one of the companies is called "Marimba." Wonder if it is a bridge between tech and Latino?

Anyway, the chart:

"Companies to Watch

Forward P/E Key Produc

Ciena (CIEN) 54.6 Network Equip Conexant Systems (CNXT) 82.8 Communications Chips
HWP 22.9 Fiber-optic Software
INKT no Net Soft
Marimba (MRBA) 637.5 Service-mgt Software
RF Micro Devices (RFMD) 44.6 Wireless-power Amplifiers
Texas Instruments (TXN) 33.5 Digital Micro Mirrors
Uniphase (UNPH) 78.8 Fiber-optic Equip

Private:
Corvis Optical switches
Fujant Base-station amps
Microcosm Technologies Chip-design software"

Note SM's comment: "The Commerce Department reports that since 1995, 35% of GDP growth has come from the tech sector."

The final section of the article is about "next generation silicon chips" called MEMS (microelectronic mechanical systems), that may provide the basis for a whole new software industry. SM's take on it is to watch who people like Microcosm Technologie, a MEMS software designer, is making deals with--maybe a clue to some of the dominant players-to-be.

Food for thought. Interested in everybody's comments, particularly on the full article.

Regards,
Lynn
