Never heard it referring to fish. Old male gorillas are silverbacks - a hair color thing. Age brings me a certain understated hirsutism - and Wife noticed that my chest hair (and the few Serengeti-like solitaries on my shoulderblades) are prematurely salt&peopper. In playful, relaxed moments, she calls me the house Silverback. Ook.
