As it's turning out, this Linux thing may be an extremely elaborate Ponzi scheme.

Just the same, there are several companies that are going public that are worth noting. Personally, I think VA Research may be at the top of the short list. RedHat is the first to IPO and as such will probably debut quite richly dollarwise. I'm not sure what their prospectus is going to look like. It will be a unique business model. Their first hurdle will be becoming bi-coastal. Their main product will be service. I'm not sure they have much franchise over others in that regard.

Caldera is another possible IPO which might be a good investment. They have a unique tie-in with Netware (Novell) and Mormons in general <g>.

Like an idiot, I bought some Corel as a desktop Linux play awhile back. That may or may not pan out in sympathy with the RedHat IPO in a few weeks. I feel the biggest beneficiary of Linux mindshare overall, is SUNW. I have a whole bunch of that one.

Bringing up the rear is our own E. Charter's Canadian OTC company which intends to save Linux from the evils of X, and for which I'm petitioning to become a board member (although I can never remember the name of the company).
