Can you name any other time in recent history that the United States government has publicly singled out an individual as a probable spy without filing any charges against that person?

Randy,

Off hand, no name comes to mind, although I'm sure McCarthy probably had a few prospects.

But come to think about it, I did just read something about one of Martin Luther King Jrs. closest assistants who apparently was a KGB agent (one of the reasons that Hoover's FBI was keeping King under surveillance) It was in yesterday's Washington Times, if I recall correctly. But I don't think they ever came right out and called him a spy due to the probably backlash that would have resulted.

As for John Huang, I can see your point. I use the term Taiwanese to stand for anyone currently enjoying citizenship in Taiwan. Must be that American bias for inclusiveness that distorts my writing... :0)

Btw, it was either Huang or Trie who served in the Taiwanese Air Force, so it goes to show that even their military folks can easily get caught up in espionage for fun and profit.

As for having knowledge of the subject matter, you could say that I have more than some and less than others... :0)

Regards,

Ron
