Ummm, analysts have never, as far as I know, claimed to be out to "help the common shareholder." (If they did, calling themselves, "sell-side analysts" would seem to be a strategic misstep.) What shocked me about that story was the fact that the other guy profiting from the insider info was a schoolteacher.
