Thanks for your answer. So the second channel requires only traces and chips, and the chips, though significantly more expensive per bit than SDRAM, should reduce that difference as density goes up.

I'd guess that the timna generation entry level PC will need 128 meg of RAM, especially if costs are minimized by soldering a fixed amount of RAM to the motherboard. Or do you think it'll still be OK to limit the system to 64meg? When do you think that we'll see 512 mbit DRDRAMS?
