Thank you...I am appalled to hear that there is no air-conditioning in your office. I grew up without air- conditioning. Central air had not yet become standard on American homes, and we could not afford all of the individual units necessary to cool the whole house. I didn't have it in college, and I didn't have it for a number of years afterwards. For years I had a basement apartment, and the windows would not take a standard unit. About a dozen years ago, I finally moved into a house with central air conditioning, and all of a sudden my life improved immeasurably. Nevertheless, in a summer such as the one we are having, the air quality is bad, and it is hard to avoid some problems, especially since one has to go out sometimes. In my case, the problems is less heat than it is sinus headaches and such...I vaguely recall the Hemingway story, but the title eludes me...I will check the links...I am glad you have chilled Coke, at least. If they are very cold, they can be truly refreshing! |
