Eicon Continues to Lead European ISDN Market in 1998

AUGUST 3, 1999
New Dataquest Survey Confirms that Eicon Increases
European Market Share
MONTREAL, QUEBEC--
Eicon Technology, a global leader in remote access solutions, has
retained its market position as the leading supplier of ISDN
terminal equipment throughout Europe in 1998. According to
Dataquest, a unit of GartnerGroup, Inc. (NYSE: IT), Eicon remains
the leading vendor of ISDN BRI terminal adapters and internal ISDNcards.
Based on Dataquest's ISDN Equipment: Europe, 1998 report, Eicon
remains the frontrunner in the pan-European market (excluding
Germany), having increased its volume market share across Europe
to 24 percent, an increase of 20 percent from its 1997 market
share. In addition, Eicon shipped over 400,000 units of ISDN
equipment in Europe during 1998 - double the number of units
shipped the previous year. As a result, Eicon continues to be the
number one supplier of ISDN equipment in eight European countries,
including Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Italy, the Netherlands,
Norway, Sweden and the UK.
For its growing success in Europe, Eicon credits the increasing
number of home and small office/home office users who are looking
for cost-effective high-speed access to the Internet. The
increase in unit sales is a testament to the tremendous
reliability of ISDN - a technology that fully meets the
requirements for a proven, cost-effective connectivity solution -
and its DIVA line of products, specifically designed to be
easy-to-use by the non-technical user.
"Eicon's continued commitment to developing easy-to-use,
intelligent and reliable ISDN products, such as the DIVA T/A and
DIVA LAN ISDN Modems, has resulted in massive demand and explosive
growth of our market share across Europe," said Ken Gingrich,
Senior Vice President, Worldwide Sales and Marketing Operations.
Eicon's revenue market share in Europe is 24 percent, an increase
of over 50 percent in the past year. Within Germany, the largest
market for ISDN products around the world, Eicon has increased its
revenue market share over 300 percent, becoming the second leading
provider of ISDN equipment to this market.
"Forecasted growth rates see the ISDN market in Europe increasing
by an additional 27 percent each year through 2002. Eicon, with
future products such as the DIVA V.90/G.Lite modem, anticipates
that its remote access revenues will grow well into the
millennium, as users continue to seek solutions that are
cost-effective and provide increased productivity," adds Gingrich.
