Re killer apps for higher bandwidth--They're sitting there waiting to be used, both mobile and stationary. Two I'm waiting for:

1. Large file transfer. Very bursty. I've got a couple of projects that simply don't fit on floppies. It really isn't very convenient to carry around Jaz drives. I'd much rather send them as e-mail attachments. Does it require 2mbps? Probably not, but 2mbps would be be just that much more convenient than 144kbps, or 526. (Instead of "send". . . wait. . .wait. . .wait. . .; you'd get "send" . . . done). This app would not appreciably add to the demands on the backbone, by the way.

2. Renting movies online. "Any movie ever made, anywhere, anytime". If they can ever get the legal stuff out of the way, of course.

Both of the above require roadblocks to be removed at the edge, of course, which at present seems to throughput at maximum 400-600kbps, I think.

This all ties together for Q, I think, with the trend towards cellular-only homes. (I wonder if it will also tie in with Cinecomm? :o) ).

Best,
JS
