Clowns:
George Bell, the ever-tan and vibrant president of ExciteAtHome (ATHM: news, msgs), said he knew he was in for "a long day" when the parking valet asked him whether his company would be gobbled up...
After the technical glitches blocked his second attempt at a broadband demonstration, Bell quipped, "You'd think with all the money I pay(BancBoston Robertson Stephens), they could get screens that work." Senior Internet analyst Keith Benjamin smiled in good spirit as the money managers laughed.
RCSW is one of brokers who recommended this stock when it was 75. Bell is an incompetent who is at odds with the right direction for ATHM joining that other incompetent, Armstrong, in delimiting where the company can go. Eventually RCSW which always was a hack operation will recommend a sell on ATHM, Bell will be forced out of wherever he thinks he belongs, and Armstrong will be applauded for losing the cable lead to inferior technologies.
The tension at this conference is so great that you cut it with a knife. The reason is that the Net is failing miserably. No one can make a profit.
Bell can't contain his anger because Excite is a drag and ATHM has to get rid of it and him fast, so he's taking shots at anyone. RCSW is worthy of being shot, but Bell shouldn't do that publicly. It's against the theory of corporate imaging to be honest with the public. |
