As Mercury's vice-president for two years, Mr. Whitmarsh has played a key role in the significant growth and success the company has experienced in the last year. Prior to joining Mercury, Mr. Whitmarsh was vice-president of sales and marketing of British Aerospace Inc. in Washington, D.C. His responsibilities included sales and marketing, technical analysis and public relations for British Aerospace sales offices in the United States, United Kingdom and Australia. Mr. Whitmarsh has also been a director of M.I.B. S.r.L., one of Italy's leading aviation and aerospace consulting companies where he specialized in both the military and civil aerospace industries. Current president and chief executive officer, Michael Forster, who will remain on Mercury's board of directors as chairman, said that the timing is appropriate for a change in leadership as his goals for the company have been achieved. "When I joined Mercury in late 1997, it was my objective to transform the company into a leading provider of innovative airline operations software systems. Following an aggressive sales and marketing strategy, Mercury has been able to build an impressive client list of airlines from around the world. Successful licensing agreements with DHL and British Airways Regional, among others have placed Mercury in the forefront of the industry," Mr. Forster said. "I am very proud of the achievements the team at Mercury has made under my leadership and my mandate as president and CEO has been fulfilled. Although Mr. Forster will no longer be involved in the day to day operations of the company, his role as chairman will be focused on corporate strategy with particular emphasis on acquisitions and partnerships.
