Heh, I've always wondered about that, but...
The ATF had no trouble firing on Waco, nor Ruby ridge. Fortunately, the military is not as "professional" as the federal police. Many men in the military (since women rarely have combat decision), are playing rambo. Many of the minorities are trying to get out of bad situation or build the skills for a good life.
The federal police are trained and indoctrinated to view enemies of the state as just that. At least this is what I've seen from the IRS agents I've worked with.
The military on the other hand is trained to follow orders. So I think responsivness to marital law would be spotty. However, I do believe that smart weapons could be used against civilian targets.
This is becuase most only require one man to push the button, and he had no reponsibility, it is his order to fire. And as we all know, smart weapons don't miss and don't cause collateral damange.
Additionally, the goverment would use propoganda to destroy the credibility of any target it was selecting. So, the man firing the weapon would be doing it for the good of America. The real question is, "could the military be used in martial suppression of civilian disorder?"
Much of the Guard and Reserves are militia and/or gun rights people. The regular army is too small, and not properly aligned for domestic suppression.
I feel that a civil war would be aggrevated not by the American military firing on Americans, but UN troops, brought in because of a lack of military support for the federal goverment. |
