In the end, content is more important than design. That applies to SI as well.

I agree. I don't like the design of the old SI, but because of the quality of the content here, I've put up with the old site's awkward navigation and the visual mish-mash which detracts from the message.

I read a local newspaper's online version, The Seattle Times, for much the same reason you read the Post: It offers free acess to its archive. It's also a well-designed site, but like the Post, it adds a vertical (The SeaTimes uses a hairline next to the text column) that I find unfortunate. I'll put up with it, however, because I prefer their content to that of the other local paper.

What I like most about the design of the new SI is its framework for the content of the site. The message base is primary as it should be, but they've added informational features that can only make the message content richer and more meaningful. And all of that information is contained within a framework that puts the message boards a simple click away, from any other place on the site.

The designers of this site have recognized the importance of content and have developed a simple design that puts a wealth of content within easy reach without ever detracting from the prime purpose of the site: stock talk.
