I called Lombard yesterday to ask the same thing, coincidentally. The person I reached in client support said I could just write down whatever shares I wanted on the confirmation notice I got in the mail. She said that when you specified what you wanted to sell to a broker over the phone, that's all they do anyway.

I wasn't quite sure I wanted to stake my financial health on the veracity of that answer, so I tried to call the IRS. Fat chance, and should I really believe anything they tell me anyway? So as it stands, I still have no good answer. Please keep me/us posted if you find anything out.

Incidentally, I've been sending them a suggestion about once a week that they should incorporate that capability into their web-trading form. I don't think it would have to be a phenomenally sophisticated database operation. I suspect that a simple memo field on the web-trading form that printed its contents on the confirmation notice would suffice. You could just type in the lot # when entering an order, if desired. You might try suggesting it to them too, so that they'll know that more than one person cares about this issue.

By the way, if anyone else knows the answer to this problem, please feel free to post.

Thanks,
David Pletcher
