to ron reece: <you are the one planning on walking halfway across the united states to your daddy's in the pacific northwest when it gets tough in DC after your 2 weeks of water and 3 weeks of food run out.>

Give it a break already.

Ron started talking with his parents early last year about Y2K problems and encouraged them to make preparations. Ron's doing more than probably 90% of the population in terms of preparation. Plus, Ron is working with others to help minimize the problem. He knows it all can't be fixed in time. But, he's trying to help.

What are you doing to help a community? Besides taking care of yourself and your family? And posting on this thread? Though I have to admit, you are helping some of those in the SI "community". And, alienating some. But, that's real life, isn't it? Real-life or Cyber-life. Help some. Alienate some.

Ron and I have had our differences about the severity of the Y2K problem. [And probably still do. Though we don't communicate much these days.] I've known him far longer than you. Thru this thread and in person. He is NOT a pollyanna. Can't understand why you and Ken keep on trying to imply this.

Why in the h*ll do you [and Ken] have to continually berate those who don't prepare to the same extent that you do??? At least you've taken a pro-active mode and are actively preparing.

Ken talks about all of this stuff ... but how much has he actually done?

It was great that he posted info about that battery-operated Coleman lamp. But, he never saw one ... let alone bought one. He researched the info on the net, and made some phone calls. I already had made my purchase prior to his post. Daffodil went out and made her purchase. Has Ken?

He lives around L.A. and is not planning on moving. He doesn't have space to store huge quantities of water. He doesn't have space to garden, doesn't cook much and doesn't have much space for storage - so he bought MRE's. [So why aren't you berating Ken?]

Why keep on attacking or berating those who aren't doing what you're doing?? What purpose does it serve?

You're how old - 73? My guess is you're on a fixed income. Your home is/was paid for. You've accumulated savings. You have few financial obligations. Your kids (if you have any) are adults. Your situation is different from many.

You often give very good, detailed input about what you're doing. Your personal experience. Information that is beneficial to many.

Why don't you [and Ken] stick to facts and beneficial information ... and drop these personal attacks and berating stuff?

And before you attack me ... I spent over 2 years and over $14,000 of my own money - meeting with media - and trying to disseminate technical information to educate and get this problem (particularly embedded systems) fixed.

When I finally realized my efforts were futile, I moved from a cushy existence in Houston. I left behind good friends and a great lifestyle. I now have a home with one artesian well (not 3 like you do), septic system, full propane generator system, with appliances appropriately set-up, a years worth of food and personal items and 1-1/2 acres with fruit trees and garden. And where I'm most fortunate ... I'm a part of a community and neighborhood ... where we look out for each other. We share advice and experience.

Quit making this Y2K thing personal already. Quit berating and attacking. Stick to issues and facts and experiences and knowledge that can be shared.

School Marm Cheryl

P.S. I think kholt's in "la-la land". GHEEZ ... it's real easy to get caught up in this personal stuff, isn't it?
