Varian Semiconductor CEO Richard Aurelio talks to The Wall Street Transcript

FWIW: This is not meant to be a plug for TWST (in fact, I think the publication is useless). Just a heads up. --Duker

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--August 3, 1999--The Wall Street Transcript has published an in-depth interview with Richard A. Aurelio of Varian Semiconductor Equipment Associates, Inc. (Nasdaq:VSEA - news), in which he talks at length about his company's future.

He says, ''Varian entered the ion implant market in 1975, a result of the acquisition of Extrion, and since then has become the world's top supplier of ion implant systems, key pieces of capital equipment used to manufacture semiconductor chips. In its history, the company has shipped more systems than all of its competitors combined.''

He declares, ''In order to reduce costs, semiconductor manufacturers are relying increasingly on their suppliers for innovative solutions to technology and competitive roadblocks. As a result, we see capital spending returning to greater than 20 percent of their revenues and creating a necessity for them to buy the best of breed from the leader in each process step.''

Looking forward, he states, ''The continued acceleration of the national road map driven by competitive pressure within our customer base and the move toward 300 millimeter will either independently or in combination be positive for Varian. We are uniquely capable of providing both on one tool, the VIISta. We're only beginning to be recognized as one of the highest potential investment opportunities in our space. Over a-half dozen of the top semiconductor analysts have recently initiated coverage. VSEA is a great value at its current price.''
