Yes I started the GNET thread, thanks for noticing. I think I brag way too much about that considering that I was never convinced enough to buy the stock. The folks who should really be doing the bragging are the founders of GNET.

I was riveted by their story if not their stock, and have since done a lot of DD on GNET and will hopefully be discussing their meteoric rise and Horowitz's savvy along with a lot of other issues as part of many other portal-related issues in a new publication I am editing.

My own column will also cover human guided content such as that emerging thru companies like BOUT.

I don't know how much more there is to contribute in terms of the GNET story, actually, as there has been a fair bit of media coverage. (Who's kidding who, we haven't seen the end of it by a long shot.) I liked the story about how they leased the fancy office space ... based on a lowball bid for a vacated floor that Russ put in just to see what would happen. How much does something like this affect a company's fate? Paul Allen's interest in GNET, I mean who would have dreamt of something like that? A great story.

I wonder what the Yahoo/Excite merger (if true) could mean for smaller portal players like GNET. Possibly it could accelerate their pace of acquiring needed content and functionality. Doesn't mean the street won't continue to like GNET but there is certainly a concern that they will issue a lot more stock to keep things rolling.

I also liked the Mining Co name but I do realize that they had to change it due to the confusion it might have caused.
