Thanks Bernard for that reference. I hadn't come across that book before, and I will be looking it up.

In retrospect, I could have been clearer in my reply. Of course, distances, as well as wire gage and immunity to noise conditions also play into the maximum bit rates achievable, as does the level of engineering that went into the design, and the quality of the components used in the termination devices.

BTW, and I don't want to put you on the spot, but do you recommend Chen's work as an addition to one's library?
