IMVHO and FWIW.

I'm non-plussed over the Ellison story. Sounds like a lot of hot air, If he were *really* interested he would have spent $100 million to acquire 5% of AAPL stock -- the legal limit before public notice. Right now he has nothing at stake and is just blowing air.

By going public without a committment or having his ducks in order, he only diminishes his own credibility. Maybe he's doing his friend Jobs a favor by pointing out AAPL's underlying value.

Because I'm already long term bullish on the stock, I don't think there's anything wrong with buying AAPL at these prices (either as a shareholder or as an acquirer.) 1.2 billion to acquire a controlling interest in this brand name, intellectual property, etc. For the speculators out there, I think it's a win-win scenario -- it'll work out later if not sooner.

This story sounds like there's nobody hanging around Ellison who's strong enough to tell him when to shut up.
