Vendit, I agree that prima facia taxes today do seem extreme. However, and here I am admittedly speaking as a recipient only, we do seem to get a lot for it. The very fact that I can use Latin terms like prima facia above (as well as appropinquaverunt) and explain in great detail the difference between a gene and a cistron are a credit to the public school system. I have yet to get dysentery from bad water do to plumbing systems and our police seem to do a reasonable job keeping me safe. Also, many studies have shown that the average buying power of an American has increased in spite of taxes. I personally think that the government provides many necessary services. If you can find a cheeper way of doing it, more power to you. I suggest you run for public office. In response to your comment on those on welfare, no one disputes a need for reform. However, what else can be done? In a civilized country, we cannot just send people to die on the streets. Starvation and exposure should not be common causes of death in the richest country in history. If this means that some people wish to take advantage of this resolution, that cannot be helped. Neither you or anyone else can fiat good intentions of everyone in the welfare system. These things have to be corrected to a point and then just accepted. Finally, I have to say I was somewhat insulted by you comment that I should begin to think for myself. I do not watch MTV (I find it insulting to my intelligence) and I do keep informed of current events. All of the opinions I have posted are my own. As I live in a very conservative area and as I think more liberally that most people I am around, there are few people that can think for me and letters like this result. I am on a debate team in my school (a rather successful one I might add) and I pride myself on my ability to think through an argument. I do now and will continue to think for myself. As for you, a question: How much Rush Limbaugh do you comsume on a weekly basis? Best of luck in whatever occupies you. Sincerely, Akula |
