It's a shame that the hype has altered people's expectations of Blair Witch. In all honesty, I believe it would have been best to see it without knowing a thing about it beforehand.

I also believe that it's a case where it appeals to some people because they can identify with what the filmmakers were trying to do. It's sort of like some people "get" a joke and think it's hilarious and others don't see a thing funny about it. The Blair Witch is a lot more about what is going on in the head of the viewer and not so much about what is happening on screen. I for one. have always enjoyed the adrenaline rush of scaring the crap out of myself and the theme of Blair Witch is so much in line with the mythos of both my Celtic and Cherokee ancestry that it's like a story I've known from infancy. I think the movie was a real hoot. (not to mention, I'm always tickled to see the big megaliths of industry and society, (in this case the Hollywood power structure) who are so used to having things their own way, get smacked up side the head by the little guy. I mean, $30,000 to make a movie that has already grossed $30 million in it's first few days of general release.

Oh as far as the end of the picture and what happened to Mikie, I got a pretty good jolt out of that. Do remember earlier in the film, where they mentioned an old hermit that had murdered seven kids because "the old witch that lived in the woods" made him do it? They said that he used to make one kid stand with his face in the corner of the cellar while he would kill another one. Mikie was standing with his face in the corner.
