Judges taking power away from the government to a small extent. That's a good move. Meanwhile, in NZ, a green-lipped mussel extract which interferes with some pathways necessary for cancer to progress has been withdrawn from sale because there are no clinical trials to show it works in humans.

It apparently has some sort of efficacy in arthritis inflammation so the researcher thinks it is likely to have some effect in people as well as cancer cells in test tubes.

It's called Lyprinol and is some lipid extract from a particular variety of mussel.

Now there is a big argument getting under way in NZ between those who think people should be able to decide for themselves and the government agency which enforces the Medicines Act.

This product has been sold under the dietary supplements banner, but publicity over the past few days has made the government think that it is being fraudulently offered as a cancer cure, though they don't seem to have any claim to pin their concerns on. Newspapers did the usual BIG HEADLINE reporting some preliminary test tube results.

They say heating destroys the lipid and in any event, is not concentrated enough in the mussel to be effective.

A 31 year old doctor who has cancer is annoyed that he can't use his own judgement on whether it's worth trying - he has little chance otherwise.

Meanwhile, Techniclone seems in trouble financially according to their latest report. IDEC is doing well.
