MDs have been around for a long time (at least 3 yrs) and has not taken off yet.
But, I have some doubt about mp3 players as well : someone showed me a winCE palmPC with XAudio mp3 player. With a headphone, it sounds pretty darn good, and you get a fast computer with it too.
Ah yes, it takes 96MB CF cards made by SNDK (sandisk) [time for more shameless stock-pumping :-)].

Just a minor quibble, SIII makes graphics asics (chips). It's the graphics chip division that is hemmorraging(?sp?) money. When the deal with DIMD is done, both the graphics chip and video card divisions (and possibly sound card and modem as well, why did they buy supra, I still haven't figured that one yet) will be hemmorraging(?sp?) money. But that could turn around if they make a chip that runs faster than the NV10 from nvidia.
Meanwhile, their stake in UMC (or the investment division :-) ) is supposed to be profitable [but the blackout in taiwan would probably knock a few M out of nextQ's profits].
To be honest, the last time I got in this stock was between 6.50 and 6.75. I got out at 12+ and now it looks interesting again. But then, after today, lots of stuff in nasdaq sure look interesting.
BTW, the weakness you see in S3 is typical of the PC video card industry. This sector will eat the unwary alive. S3 is still hemmorraging money through it's video card division and will continue to do so in the near future, and the deal with DIMD is FAR from being done. |
