<Oh, and the Athlon, nee K7, will be called the "Athlon Professional".>

Athlon hasn't even been released yet, and now they're calling it "Athlon Professional"? Wonder if the web sites like Herr Uberclockermeister will shorten the name to "Athlon Pro," thus following in the footsteps of Pentium Pro. At least Intel exercised the plain old Pentium name for several years before coming up with "Pentium Pro."

All kidding aside, this seems like AMD's attempt to try and take on Intel in all market segments. We've already got "Athlon Professional" and "Athlon Ultra." You can bet there will be an "Athlon Light" for the low-end market, and "Athlon Mobile" if AMD can ever figure out how to reduce the power consumption on that processor.

As usual, AMD is trying to take on an "800 lb. gorilla" with brute force, instead of with nimbleness.
