Ravioli and Meatballs, Yumm....
Today, out here in the sagebrush I enjoyed some pastrami that was airfreighted yesterday from the lower East Side and purchased at an authentic deli in Portland. Delicious.
And my point is?
The last time I had such wonderful (forget the food police, please, I beg you) beouf was in SF. Where I read an obit for one of the engineers who was responsible for the most impressive toll taking devices for the BART system (for those unfamiliar, that would be the Bay Area Rapid Transit, i.e. the subway, though no one in the Bay Area would stoop to call it by such a pedestrian designation).
And my point is?
Well the recently croaked engineer, (remember, it was an obit we're discussing here) had stated repeatedly, before the funeral, that the cost, in terms of $$$$, (though no one was counting when the BART was built,) of the toll taking software and hardware, were at such a scale that from the initiation of service in 1978 until the Millenium, coming right up now, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN FAR CHEAPER TO LET EVERYONE RIDE FOR FREE THAN TO BUILD THE TOLL INFRASTRUCTURE. But he was just one guy, and obviously, it's far smarter to spend $1.10 in order to collect $1.00 if there is any way whatsoever that that $1.10 won't come out of a "club" member's own pocket. This is what the ITU wants to do to you. I believe their publicists say "for you". But you get the point. And that is that pastrami and meatballs are good. Tolls are bad. It's so simple. Why isn't it easy?
