Let's start with an easy one. Several of you have expressed concern that certain features that existed in the old SI were "fogotten" in new SI. In some cases, that was definitely true. The new SI was a very significant development effort, and a detail or two inevitably fell between the cracks. That is absolutely one of the main reasons we have done a beta test, and also one of the main reasons we have not yet turned off the old site. (I'll get to the Keeping the Old SI issue later - after I'm warmed up.) :)
Other features (clubhouses is a good example) were left out of the new SI on purpose. In the grand scheme of things, clubhouses actually generate very little activity on SI, so they didn't seem critical to include in a first version, i.e. we could always "add them back" later.
Finally, other features were left out because they had extremely low usage and we didn't find any value in continuing to support them. The Bull/Bear survey is the example that comes to mind. (BTW - I know we've had at least one customer request that this feature be re-instated, but I'm sorry - that one won't happen.)
So, let me cut to the chase. Here is the status on what I think is the complete list of "missing features". Let me know if I missed any...
1. Search this thread only function - Has already been added back to the subject page. Will be added to message pages as well.
2. Posts by this person - This will be added.
3. Number of posts listed on a member Profile page reduced to 20 - This has already been increased to 80. 4. Clubhouses - Will be added to the new SI (just for you Joan <g>)
5. Ability to access post "segments" by range - We upgraded this function. On the Subject page, there is an input box prefaced by Go to reply #:_______ Enter any number into this box and we'll display the list of the next 40 posts, starting with that number.
6. Clear all message in PMs - We will add this.
7. Browser Page Titles - This is the issue where all of our pages have the same title, i.e. [Silicon Investor - StockTalk], so if you're trying to use the Browser bookmark feature, it's not very useful. - Status: I know we discussed this one, but frankly I forget what the answer is. Since it's almost 1:00 am, I'm not going to call the developers right now and ask. Personally, I am inclined to fix this since it bothers me as well. And, since my opinion carries at least some weight (:0), I'll see what I can do. In any case, I didn't want to leave it off the list, but I'll have a better answer for you in the morning.
8. [edit]Comparison Charts - These were never "left out", but we moved them to the Portfolio section. However, based on customer feedback (in this thread, I might add) we also added the comparative charts feature to the Multiple Quotes results page. So, if you enter multiple ticker symbols (separated by spaces) in the Quotes input box in the top-left corner, you'll get a list showing quotes for all the symbols you entered. There is now a comparative chart link on that page which will automatically show you a comparative chart for the first 7 symbols on your list (you can then select different symbols from the list or select other alternatives for the chart).
Okay - did I miss anything critical? I'm talk about "missing features" with this post, i.e. key stuff that was in the old SI, but isn't in the new. Note: I'll address requested enhancements in a future post.
Thanks,
Bryan |
