Remember when x2 first shipped PC-Week came out with a half-assed review where among other questionable statements they claimed only a 25% increase in speed? Well I found this post on an IBM Network Service newsgroup where they were arguing about when IBM will turn on x2 -- a lot of those boys seem to be waiting for it.

"Be aware that Jim Thompson of USR announced that in fact the
published test by PC Week was conducted on a PBX system. New tests are
being conducted now."

I don't know who Jim Thompson is but my gut feeling is that this is credible and indeed the reason for the bad numbers wrt speed. The digital PBX system, I believe, throws in an extra conversion. Even if this is not the case, it certainly is not the x2 environment of choice.

What a bunch of morons. And these are supposed to be PC Weeks tech people.
