Three cheers for you, Akula. When I had read how Vendit based his reasoning on experiences not available to you, and even several times referred to that non-availability, I had thought it was somehow unfair, and wanted to respond. But then, I somehow trusted you would come back on him yourself, and you did, excellently.
I think it should somehow be expressed that it is not in the power of the US president (or Congress) to diminish taxes from 65 per cent to zero. The federal tax is according to Vendit 28 per cent, and even if this would be halved, still 51 cents out of the dollar wouldn't flow to Vendit's hands. On the other hand, if 49 cents are compared to 35 cents, that makes a very big difference (you should calculate it in per cent).
On the issues in your mutual discussion I actually won't have a say above that.
But I would like you to notice the link mentioned in message #13893 in the Kosovo thread, also available through Message 10785875 ; it is not about Kosovo, but about the US political system, and it might be just the right thing for your age and interest.
BTW I am 32.
Best regards MNI.
PS: It might be worthwile to recheck "prima facie", but maybe I didn't learn Latin well in my school days. In a way you were giving away to Vendit when you said your school is pretty successful - he might say now it is the exception, not the typical case of a public school. Anyway you have proved the success of your debating club interest. I think a little MTV from time to time doesn't do harm - but maybe I am not as mature as you are. |
