You may have noticed that I don't take notice of English syntax in my prose. <g> ... something very American about it I wanted to use the very same words, but forgot about it. My mother is although German, nearly from Latvia, but she is a few years older than yours. The need to know, and sometimes tell, the family story - that is also very American. Yes, it would be funny, but I do not dare out of reverence for his age. He is already 90, and has made this weekly radio series for 54 years, if I understood correctly. Otoh a few weeks ago he mentioned that a listener had asked him something, so I still might try it <gg>
