Novell Alum. Turns to Former Employer
When he left Novell, former executive vice president Mark Calkins didn't depart on the best of terms. Now, however, he is relying on his former employer to help open doors for his new company, NetVision Inc. of Lindon, Utah. NetVision is the developer of Synchronicity, which provides a single point of administration by integrating the directory services in Windows NT, NetWare 4, IntranetWare, NetWare 3, Lotus Notes and any LDAP-compatible directory into a single global directory. NetVision beat Novell to market with an NDS utility that lets administrators use NDS on Windows NT networks, and the NetWare 3.x version is about to enter beta. Already, more than 100 resellers nationwide have expressed interest in the company's technology. NetVision believes its product to be superior to Novell's Tabasco product, which, though provides similar functionality, is not yet widely available. Furthermore, Synchronicity will likely beat Tabasco to NetWare 3.x, Unix and Notes, says Calkins, chief executive of NetVision. The Notes version, he adds, may turn out to be an unexpected bonanza for NetVision. Fortunately for the company, Novell itself is recognizing that fact. It is allowing Calkins and NetVision to use Novell's own facility in the North East to demonstrate its Synchronicity product to prospective buyers in New England. T.C. Doyle |
