For your search you might want to focus on the original two firms: UNPH and JDS Fitel, given the very recent merger. I recall reading a superb article on UNPH and DWDM at the George Gilder web page sometime ago (was a freebie to attract new customers). If you can snag it its worth a look.

For reviewing the JDS Fitel past, you might want to do a search through a few Canadian sources, given the northern heritage. Suggest Yahoo Canada, the Globe and Mail or the National Post - leading newspapers. Also, there is a Cdn magazine called Cdn Business which had an extensive article on JDS about a year ago. I don't have URLS but all are likely easily reachable from Yahoo Canada or Canada.com.
Finally, you might try and access old JDS Fitel or UNPH threads if they're still archived here.

I have been in JDSU (via JDS Fitel) for over a year now - and expect to hold long indefinitely. Capacity at the Ottawa (JDS) site continues to expand rapidly. The JDS side of the company demonstrated consistent 80% plus annual growth last few years - which I expect to continue. While I'm not as swept up on the UNPH side, I do understand that it was growing rapidly, although not as quickly as the passive component JDS side. Synergies of this merger are impressive and the leadership combination would appear to be very complementary with JDS guy the daily COO and UNPH guy the "deal maker". Upside potential continues to be enormous in the context of "can't get enough bandwidth".

Cheers
