I realize (hope?) you were speaking informally- even whimsically- here. But you touched a nerve with me. The notion that the freedom of the people of S. Korea should be sacrificed to appease the leviathan to the north is truly an anathema. Should your idea be accepted, a culture of nearly 5000 years duration- possibly the prototype of Chinese civilization- would be extinguished. Do you think it would buy peace in our time?

Perhaps the US should go the mat on NK's nuclear capability, although after years of temporizing it's not likely that will happen until US leadership gets out the the bush leagues. A Japan that does not try to be nice to everybody could be of help in this regard. But we need not do it at the expense of a little people who have defied successive conquerors and emerged with their culture, history, and identity intact.
