I have been using a free ISP (NetZero) for the last 6 months
and it has worked very well for me. I also used to use a very
low cost ISP which charges $8 and have been AOL-free for some
time.

The writing is on the wall for ISP's that think they can get away
with high charges and even AOL has recognized that. Any store
you go to buy a new PC these days, you can avail of a $400
discount over 36 months which works out to a $11 discount -
or a 50% discount of AOL's rate - Of course the ISP gets a long
term customer but that is not enough to justify the 50 %
loss in revenue per customer.

Look for decreasing margins in the coming quarters for most ISP's.
