For example, I'm willing to pay $5 - $10 per to watch new films on my tube.

Video on demand.

Is this not the "killer app" for broadband? Blows all the others away as far as I'm concerned.

I'll bet you'll find people willing to pay 50c-$1 to see a TV episode that they missed, or even some obscure old rerun. Then theres the $2 people would be happy to pay to pay "rent" a movie without having to go to the store.

So where is it? The technology is perfectly capable. If cable is too afraid to provide it why isnt it on DSL? You'd think TWX would love to provide their inventory of entertainment through Roadrunner.

Again and again I say we need broadband apps. Just browsing faster is not enough. Excite is supposed to be nuturing them. Lets not forget ATHM is a content aggregator, not a content creator. If it takes giving Yahoo or AOL space on the front page to get them to start pushing broadband apps- do it.
Eric

A little side note:
My saga in search of broadband continues. I see what is happening to me as representative of your "average" person. DSL is available, but I am too far from the central office. Cable (roadrunner) was supposed to be here in 3-4 months, but I just asked and now they say I have to wait another full year! Sigh.. I guess they can't justify coming to an area that already has competition.
