How did people do today? I feel no elation at being all cash. I can't shake the image of a lot of people getting burned who, like me, only wanted some kind of financial independence. Margin rates are the highest since 1971 and we all know what happened after that. I think it's going to get worse, much worse, and a lot of people are going to be wiped out. Greenspan could achieve all his aims if, instead of raising interest rates, they raised margin requirements. Save a lot of people's bacon, too. CD
