What I liked about the east was that there were always rivers somewhere within driving [ for day trips ] distance where one can find fish. Out here there is nothing! While up in the Sierras I fished the San Jaoquin River in the Ansel Adams Wilderness. So many people that they only allow shuttle buses in during the day.... The stream looks just like the little Beaverkill. Crystal clear, beautiful surroundings ......except people every where. Spinning rods, "power" bait......The only fish I caught were ones that were just barely big enough to take my fly [about #10 ] lost a fair number that weren't. Now and again I would run across some one dragging a stringer with one or two of these 5" unfortunates. It seems that upon reaching a size that can take a hook they become victims of "power " bait. All Rainbows and Brookies ....<sigh> ....to dumb to resist...I'm afraid.
