* Introduces new SGI 1400L server and enterprise- level Linux support

Continuing its aggressive drive to bring Linux solutions to the enterprise, SGI today announced the
immediate availability of its new Intel processor-based SGI 1400L server. Preloaded with the SGI Linux
Environment with RedHat Linux 6.0, the SGI 1400L server offers customers a reliable and cost-effective
platform for database serving, Web serving, file sharing, and technical computing. The SGI 1400L server is
one of two products in the new SGI 1000 server family also announced today.

"The SGI 1400L running Linux Environment combines SGI's expertise in high-performance, scalable
servers with the reduced cost and high reliability that is provided by an open source operating system,"
said Jim Irving, UK director, SGI.

"With our recent offering of XFS source code to Linux, SGI demonstrated its full support for the open
source model of software development," said Irving. "Today's introduction of the SGI 1400L server
addresses the needs of our customers who have championed the use of Linux in technical computing and
enterprise markets."

The SGI 1400L ships with one to four 500 MHz Pentium III Xeon processors with a selection of 512K, 1Mb
or 2 MB of secondary cache, up to 4GB of memory, seven PCI slots, six Ultra2 SCSI hot swap drive bays
and standard redundant power supplies. The SGI 1400L is available in rack-mount or deskside
configurations.

"The last thing you want in an e-commerce site is to wait. The new SGI server line uses up to four of
Intel's fastest processors, giving you the performance headroom you need for e-commerce," said Stephan

Linux are requirements. With the introduction of its Linux OS-based servers, SGI is also able to address
more customer needs such as engineers and designers in Electronic Design Automation (EDA) and
software development who rely on UNIX or UNIX-like environments, but prefer the more affordable Intel
Architecture-based hardware. SGI is committed to furthering the Linux operating system's industrial
strength by contributing its technical leadership in scalability, reliability and performance. Specifically,
SGI is working with the open source community to contribute its journaled file system (XFS), as well as
multiprocessing and interoperability technologies.

with TCP/IP stack management software created by SGI and included with the SGI 1400L server. Also
included is the kernel NFS demon patch for improved NFS file sharing performance.

The SGI 1400L comes bundled with a number of interoperability tools including Samba, which provides
leading performance for heterogeneous file sharing between Linux servers and UNIX or Windows clients.

The SGI 1400L is available immediately through SGI's worldwide sales offices and resellers. The entry
