Hummingbird Accelerates Integration of Acquired PC DOCS Group
TORONTO, Aug. 4 /CNW/ - As part of its drive to lead in the Enterprise Information Portal (``EIP') market, Hummingbird Communications Ltd. (TSE: ``HUM' and NASDAQ: ``HUMC') today disclosed it has completed a reorganization and several management changes in recently acquired PC DOCS Group. ``We committed to our customers, investors, partners and employees that we would deliver synergies quickly,' said Fred Sorkin, Hummingbird's Chairman and CEO. ``We have made some significant changes to our organization in this first phase of integration. We are moving forward very aggressively to grow revenues profitably.' In the first phase of integration Hummingbird has structured three business units: Knowledge Portals, Decision Portals and Connectivity Solutions. The Knowledge Portals unit includes all PC DOCS companies worldwide and will be led by Fabrizio Mignini, formerly executive VP worldwide sales, PC DOCS/Fulcrum. The Decision Portals division includes the Business Intelligence line of products and the former Leonard's Logic, maker of the world-leading Genio data transformation engine, recently acquired by Hummingbird. David Young, who recently joined Hummingbird from Cognos, will lead this unit. The Connectivity Solutions business will continue under the leadership of Julius da Costa. ``I believe our new management team is one of the most vigorous and skilled in the enterprise software sector,' said Jim Tobin, president of Hummingbird. ``This reorganization around our key strengths reflects our unique strategy to provide a true Enterprise Information Portal. The power of our EIP vision is that we will bring together all enterprise and e-business information, whatever its source. We can get you all the information you need in the right context so you can make faster, better business decisions. We believe that this new organizational approach will offer our customers, whichever area of our business they currently know, with compelling reasons to adopt our new Enterprise Information Portal.' To bring the various technologies together, R&D has been centralized under Hummingbird co-founder and executive vice president, Barry Litwin, with Fulcrum's Gwyn Fisher as Vice President Portal R&D and Fred Whiteside, a Hummingbird veteran taking over Document Management and Workflow R&D. In keeping with the simplification of Hummingbird's management structure, several senior executives from PC DOCS will be leaving the company. PC DOCS Group CEO and founder Rubin Osten, Chief Financial Officer Dennis Moir, VP Human Resources Jon Hamovitch, PC DOCS/Fulcrum President Craig Wallace, and PC DOCS Canada President Lynn Kauffman will be leaving, but will perform specific advisory roles through a transition period. Scott Kadlec, a founding president of PC DOCS Inc., will be leaving to pursue other interests. Other PC DOCS senior managers and staff will be departing through further rationalization to be completed by September. ``We thank these former PC DOCS executives for their contributions to expanding the business and helping us to integrate the two companies,' said Fred Sorkin. ``In particular, we congratulate Ruby and his team for their stewardship of PC DOCS' considerable growth. Now, Jim Tobin and his new team begin the exciting task of completing the integration and executing our aggressive EIP strategy. The new Hummingbird's expertise and market leadership in its current businesses gives us a solid foundation to build on.' |
