This is a notion that slips by unnoticed by anti-trust lawyers. <g>

A private monopoly is temporary. All non-coerced monopolies will eventually fall. This has shown to be true time and again. IBM is a good example. Who would have suspected 15 years ago that Big Blue wouldnt be at the top of the hogpile at the end of the century? Similiarly with MS, Microsoft will not retain its OS monopoly for ever, a better OS will arrive. Take Linux for example, hardly the ideal consumer OS, and yet it has taken strides in breaking into the destop OS market, with several OEM computer builders pre-installing it now. A private monopoly can always be undercut by a competitor offering its product at comparable quality or performace for less. Companies are beholden to consumers, the ultimate monopoly-buster. Its only when government intrudes, that monopolies become static. A monopoly can only stand indefinately by an act of law.
