What the market sees is something pretty simple:
overvalued stocks all over the place and interest rates moving up.

Personally, I think that it's just taking a breather. Most profits have been coming in very nicely, and I think I saw were averaging 15-20% over expectations. That's good. But not enough to justify a 10,600 Dow. Especially w/rising rates.
But rates are rising due to fear - not real demand for money. So, that, too, may change soon.

End of the day - there are still billions of $$ per month being dumped into 401(k) plans...and that is still being put into the market....and the daytraders are still providing tremendous liquidity (which is another reason the market is so high - quite different from Japan's bubble 10 years ago).

My opinion is that the market is weary, but it is far from collapsing. We have yet to see the Internet stretch its legs, in terms of value and productivity. We are JUST seeing the beginnings of that, what w/AOL's earnings growing 200% per year....and other players starting to see startling growth as well (etoys revenue up 2000%).....
The market is fine is my summary...just tired from its rapid growth.
