Re: Notes about the Santa Maria Mining document

Facts:

1. It came from the "Maricopa County Recorder's Office", see recorder.maricopa.gov

2. If you type in "Santa Maria Mining" in the name field you will see:

NAME DOC CODE REC DATE REC NUM
SANTA MARIA MINING COMPANY L L C ST TAX LN 05/18/1999 99-0471986

3. If you click on the record number you can either pull up an "unofficial" version of the document on the web, or you can order an official version be sent to you.

4. The document shows that since 8/1/97, Santa Maria Mining has owed the AZ Department of Economic Security $132.57 (excluding penalties and interest).

Opinion:

So, what we appear to have here is a company -- supposedly valued at $30,000,000 -- that shows no signs of operation as of the quarter ending 6/30/97. One might argue that they simply missed one bill. Considering that the charge was for unemployment tax, had Santa Maria Mining still been in operation, these charges simply would have been added to the next bill. This was obviously not the case. Anyone wishing to verify this can probably do so by calling the AZ Department of Economic Security and ask about the status of Employer Account #42974.

Is it possible that all one had to do to "own" Santa Maria Mining -- supposedly valued at $30,000,000 -- was to pay off the $196.80 owed? I think this question needs to be answered definitively.
