Sarkie,
I sure hope you prove to be correct. I admit to being a bit of a cynic from time to time, but I remember a similar situation with the evolution of AT&T's ISP site.
AT&T solicited user feedback about changes to its site, even offered a message board to discuss changes. AT&T seemed to ignore what users said and it seems they went right ahead and did what was planned in the first place. Many thought that the message board was just a way to deflect user irritation at unwanted changes.
Will this time be different? I think so, at least in general.
But, in specific, I remember the free lifetime memberships, then the $50 lifetime memberships, etc. Now, I saw Brian state that "We may have to raise the fee for lifetime memberships, they are too cheap <g>." I may not have his quote exactly word for word but this is, in essence, what he said.
We were told, even promised, when SI was sold to GO2Net, that all previous commitments would be honored.
I remember that AT&T had an "Unlimited Use Fee" but then it said that 'unlimited' was only good for 150 hours a month. Later, it allowed one to have unlimited use IF a higher rate was paid.
It will be interesting to see what SI does in the future. But, I don't come here because it is SI, I come here to read the contributions of others. The users define the excellence of this site. |
