Just got off the phone with Ron S, and am volunteering (along with Capn Tony) to assist in planning some activities for Saturday, August 28th.
The plan is to leave Saturday evening open, in the event folks want to buy theater tickets, etc. BTW, here's a good link to some of the theaters through Ticketmaster:

I've had no problems getting tickets through the Ticketmaster site (you can even pick specific seats, etc), although the premiums they charge are a bit outrageous. I encourage everyone to NOT wait to the last minute to get tickets, as shows frequently sell out. Also, discount tickets for many shows can be obtained at the "TKTS" booth in Times Square or the World Trade Center on the same day of a show, although you take your chances. BTW -- the New York Times site has all kinds of cool stuff to do around NYC. You may have to register to use the service -- I would recommend it (it's free, BTW).

Shows I've seen that I would highly recommend:
Lion King (fantastic, not just for kids - very tough to get tickets)
Chicago (great Bob Fosse Musical)
Blue Man Group (relatively inexpensive -- great, offbeat fun)
Fosse (song/dance compilation from all his shows)
Other shows that are presumably very good:
Cabaret (located in the old Studio 54 club)
Death of a Salesman (tough to get tickets)
Rent
Shows that are kind of glitzy & overproduced, but big hits nonetheless (don't get me wrong -- lots of folks love these):
Les Miserables (good show, but very, very long - not particularly upbeat, if that's what you're looking for)
Miss Saigon (same comments as Les Miserables)
Phantom of the Opera (same comments as Les Miserables)
Shows to probably avoid:
Cats (avoid at all costs)
Fooloose (unless you thought the movie was some kind of post-modern classic)
Jekyll & Hyde (same comments as Les Miserables)
