Some analysis of Ellison's move:

from the San Jose Mercury:

sjmercury.com

"Most intriguing of all, perhaps, were the stock manipulations. While
Apple Chairman Gilbert F. Amelio on Thursday morning suggested Ellison
was trying to drive down the price of shares, the price actually rose by
11 percent, Apple's highest one-day percentage gain since June. Fueling
the rise were two huge purchases by unknown buyers -- one of 2 million
shares and another of 1.3 million shares -- helping to make Apple the
day's fourth-most active stock in U.S. trading."
